Who We Are
The British Columbia Fire Training Officers Association, more commonly referred as the BCFTOA, is dedicated to gathering information on training standards and providing this information to fire departments so they may effectively and safely train their members. In a world of ever changing standards and regulations, this organization provides fire departments with the most current, up-to-date course information and training requirements. The BCFTOA will help develop, and support the work of those leaders and organizations in order that they may best provide training for members and affiliated Associations.
The members of the Association are formally organized fire departments or fire service-training organizations, accepted upon submission of an application form and payment of the current annual membership fee.
The Purposes of the Association are to:
- To promote uniform training procedures for the Fire Service in British Columbia.
- To study areas of mutual concern to the Fire Service, particularly in the field of training.
- To promote the exchange of ideas and techniques in the field of firefighting and fire operations, training and prevention technology.
- Will seek and utilize fire service leaders who will professionally and enthusiastically advance the purpose and mission of our Association.
- To research, develop and recommend new and improved methods, techniques, equipment and apparatus.
- Support its members through the delivery of quality member services
- Will endorse programs that foster and promote quality improvement and professional development for fire services and training agencies

The BCFTOA presents an annual Educational Conference hosted by local fire departments, where fire department officers and Association members can meet and share their ideas and views on training and leadership.
In addition to the Education Conference and courses that we sponsor we also have this website devoted to issues that concern our members.
The BCFTOA is expected to:
- Produce and disseminate annual reports to the membership.
- Maintain a financial position of solvency.
- Develop and maintain functional Operational Guidelines.
- Promote membership.
- Promote legislation that advances our collective interests.
- Promote the fire service industry.
- Promote the success of our membership.
- Properly advise its board, staff, appointees, representatives, and all other appropriate relationships on issues of adopted principles and doctrine and best practices through the Society Act and Operational Guidelines.
- Develop, promulgate and maintain quality, timely and relevant communications.
The Association is non-partisan and shall not be used for the dissemination of partisan principles or for the promotion of the candidacy of any person or party seeking public office or preferment. This provision is not alterable.
